Fragments Of Journeys

Stories Found in Light & Silence

About

I’m Sunil AK, a photographer based in Bangalore.

Photography, for me, is a way of paying closer attention — to light, structure, people, and the fleeting moments that often go unnoticed. Through travel, street life, architecture, nature, and everyday scenes, I try to create images that feel honest, quiet, and present.

“Miles in Frames” is a collection of those observations gathered along the way.

Travel Stories

Each section in my journey is a different destination, where every place unfolds its own mood, stories, and visual rhythm. Together, they form a collection of moments seen through different landscapes, cultures, and experiences.

Zanskar Valley

Tucked away in a remote corner of Ladakh, Zanskar is a high-altitude desert shaped by rugged mountains, glaciers, and centuries-old monasteries built into the rock face. Far from the usual tourist routes, the valley unfolds slowly through vast landscapes, quiet villages, and the striking presence of Gonbo Rangjon. The terrain is demanding and remote, but its scale and stillness make the journey deeply rewarding. In Zanskar, every turn offers a new perspective.

Nagaland – Aoling Festival, 2026

Aoling Festival

In the remote Mon district of Nagaland, the Aoling Festival marks the Konyak New Year with the roar of muzzle-loading guns, traditional war chants, and vibrant celebrations of spring. It offers a glimpse into the culture of the Konyak community, known for their distinctive facial tattoos and warrior heritage, where ancient rituals continue to shape everyday life. Aoling remains one of Nagaland’s most immersive and culturally rich festivals.

Theyyam

In the sacred groves of Kannur, Theyyam blurs the line between ritual, performance, and devotion. Elaborate costumes, towering headgear, fire, and rhythmic movement transform the space into something deeply immersive. As the performer steps into the role of the deity, the atmosphere shifts — carrying a sense of tradition and belief that has endured for generations.

Holi - Festival of Colours

Holi - Festival of Colours

Holi transforms streets across India into spaces of color, movement, and celebration. Layers of gulal fill the air as music, laughter, and crowds blur social boundaries, even if only for a day. From intimate local gatherings to the intense celebrations of Mathura and Vrindavan, the festival carries an energy that is both chaotic and deeply communal.

Varanasi

Varanasi is often described as a city of beginnings and endings. Along the ghats, daily life unfolds beside rituals of prayer, cremation, and devotion, all against the constant flow of the Ganges. From the first light of sunrise to the smoke rising from the funeral pyres, the city carries a rhythm shaped by faith, time, and continuity.

Amid the constant movement of Varanasi, moments of complete stillness quietly emerge.

If my work resonates with you, I’d be glad to collaborate.
